2012 qualifiers expanded to 16 teams

Dubai : The qualification tournament, which previously involved six or eight teams, will be expanded to a 16-team tournament for the next World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka.

"Cricket development around the world has never been stronger," said International Cricket Council chief executive Haroon Lorgat.

The ICC Development Committee has designed the new-look tournament to include 10 qualifiers from regional Twenty20 events, which will add to the current six nations from the ODI/T20 status.

The exact details of the qualification network will be announced in due course.
