Fujairah: The UAE National Lifeguard Championship (NLC) will be held at Le Meridien Al Aqah Beach Resort, Fujairah, on December 5.

Now in its 12th year, the annual championship brings together lifeguards from across the UAE for a competition that focuses on creating a nationwide movement to highlight the role of lifeguards. As more hotels started to lend their support, the initiative picked up momentum and has eventually grown into a milestone event for lifeguards.

NLC is open to all qualified lifeguards employed at hotels, swimming pools, water parks and beaches with this year’s event broken down in six main races, namely Surf Swim, Run-Swim-Run, Rescue Tube Rescue, 1km Beach Run, 90m Beach Relay and Beach Flags, which are all designed to test participants’ skills and endurance.

Launched in 2006, this annual championship has grown into a landmark calendar event for lifeguards in UAE. “This event was launched with the purpose of increasing awareness of water safety and giving lifeguards an opportunity to demonstrate their skills. Twelve years later I feel proud to see the exponential growth of this initiative.”

Patrick Antaki, Complex General Manager, Le Meridien Al Aqah Beach Resort and Al Maha, A Luxury Collection, Desert Resort and Spa and Founder of the UAE National Lifeguard Championship, said.
