Jiu-Jitsu black belt world champion Ribeiro hails UAE capital event and says he feels like ‘a superstar’ participating at it
Abu Dhabi: The UAE Jiu-jitsu Federation (UAEJJF), the official authority for the sport of jiu-jitsu in the country, will offer cash prizes of over $125,000 (Dh459,228) in each of the four host cities (and over $200,000 at the Abu Dhabi leg of the tour) at the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Jiu-Jitsu World Tour Season 3 2017-18 series in Los Angeles, Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro, Abu Dhabi and London.

Age Divisions include: Juvenile [16-17], Adult [18-29], Master [30-35] and for the first time, a Legends super fight category. Belt categories include: ‘Adult to Master’: White, Blue, Purple, Brown and Black. ‘Juvenile’: White and Blue [Yellow to Green should fight as Blue belts].
Medals will be awarded for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in each division. Prize money awarded will range from $500 to $4,000 in several categories, including Black Adult and Master, in the blue, purple, brown and black categories for both men and women.
The first-place winner in the respective weight categories will receive 200 points, the second-place winner will receive 160 points and the third-place winner will receive 120 points. Fourth-place will receive 100 points, Fifth to eighth place will receive 80 points.
A trophy will be awarded to the best club and there will also be a special award for the black belt adult division champions. Jiu-Jitsu black belt world champion Xande Ribeiro believes the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam has contributed to becoming the lifeline that so many athletes in jiu-jitsu need. Thousands of jiu-jitsu athletes take part at the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam, not just because of the financial rewards, but the structure and high-class quality of the event.
