Dubai: The UAE basketball association (BA) decided in its last meeting chaired by Esmail Al Gergawi to ask the Dubai Sports Council (DSC) to host the 2014 World Championships.

The BA also decided to ask the DSC to host the first youth under 17 world championships 2010 which comes according to the BA strategy to prepare the youth and secure the future of the game for the coming years.

The BA have also signed a one-year contract with Bosnian coach Meladin Estovic to lead the national team from March 2008 until Februrary 2009.

The board meeting accepted the participation of the Al Nasr senior team in the Arab clubs championships to be be held in Jordan from April 23 to May 5.

Also the board accepted the participation of the Al Wasl team in two events, the first will be the GCC clubs tournament in Doha from April 24 to 30. The BA will also name Al Ahli as the second club to represent UAE in the GCC tournament.

Al Wasl will also take part in the Asian clubs championships in Kuwait from May 8 to 16.

The BA decided to name the winner of the Vice President Cup to play in the Dubai international Basketball Championships along with the UAE national team starting from the coming edition in 2009.

The basketball board accepted the participation of the UAE national youth under 19 team in the Asian youth tournament to be held in Iran from August 28 to September 5.

The senior teams participation will be decided by the national teams committee after discussing it with Estovic.
