Cetniewo, Poland: Anita Wlodarczyk of Poland has bettered her own hammer throw world record with a distance of 81.08 metres at the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial Throws Festival in Cetniewo.

After opening with a foul on Saturday, Wlodarczyk, 29, became the first woman to throw beyond 80 metres when she added 1.5 metres to her own world record of 79.58 set last year at the ISTAF athletics meet in Berlin. The throw was the fourth world record of her career.

“I finally fulfilled my dream,” Wlodarczyk said. “I made history by becoming the first woman in the world to throw the hammer further than 80 metres.”

After breaking the world record in the second round of the competition, Wlodarczyk completed a consistent series with throws of 79.07, 78.53, 76.61 and 77.83 to win the competition. Alexandra Tavernier of France finished second with 73.33 meters.

Wlodarczyk won gold at the 2009 world championships before finishing second at the London Olympics in 2012 and the 2013 worlds.
