Anilesh Kumar overcame a strong challenge from A.S. Deepu in the men's singles of the India Club Western Union UAE Open badminton tournament.

Anilesh beat Deepu 17-15, 12-15, 15-9 in a well-fought match at the India Club badminton courts.

The second match between Robert Fay and Vijay Lachwani turned out to be a one-sided affair. Lachwani surrendered meekly to Fay 15-0, 15-0 without putting up any resistance.

However, in the third match, though Mohammad Nouman won the match easily, his opponent Ajit Kumar put up some resistance. In the end, Nouman won 15-4, 15-9.

The men's doubles event was marred by few walk over incidents. Dev Maitra and M. Madhu as well Joju Thomas and Roshan Xavier received walk overs.

The best match of the doubles event was the clash of Anand Moorthy and Mukesh Kumar against

Abdul Shafeeq and Haneefa Sidheek. Moorthy and Kumar won the match 9-15, 15-7, 15-7.
