Al Suwaidi steals the show with a perfect round at Seih Assalam

Dubai: The UAE's Salim Ahmad Al Suwaidi rode a perfect show jumping round to capture the DOM Speed Class on day two of the Gulf News-sponsored Dubai International CSI-W-Show Jumping Championship at the Emirates Equestrian Centre in Seih Assalam.

Al Suwaidi clocked a smart time of 55.37 seconds aboard the mare Natalie 079 which earned him the winner's purse of Dhs 12,000.

He easily held off fellow UAE rider Abdullah Humaid Al Muhairi, who timed 57.02 seconds, while Ahmad Al Ameen, also from the UAE, finished third in 57.98 seconds.

Al Muhairi won Dhs 9,000 and Al Ameen Dhs 7,000.

The best non-UAE performance in the Class came from Qatari show jumper Falah Suwaid Al Ajmi who finished fourth in 58.92 seconds to pocket Dhs 5,000.

The Dubai International CSI-W-Show Jumping Championship, which is one of the biggest equestrian events in the UAE, finishes today.

Shirin Mohammad Horr was beaming after her performance aboard her own horse U-Ottie saw her clinch the National Class 2 for Juniors & Young Riders.

Representing the Emirates Equestrian Centre (EEC), Horr delivered a flawless performance to clock 60.87 seconds to win in comfortable fashion from Saif Sultan Bin Dhahi, also from the EEC.

Third place went to the Sharjah Equestrian and Racing Club's (SERC) Salim Khamis Al Suwaidi.

Thursday's feature event, the Dubai Equestrian Club Two Phases was snapped up by Kuwaiti rider Ali Al Khorafi who rode two faultless rounds. He pocketed a purse of Dhs 20,000.

UAE show jumpers Mufta Al Dhaheri (riding Oscar) and Hamad Ali Al Kirbi (Liebe) finished second and third to collect Dhs 15,000 and Dhs 12,000 in prize money respectively.

The day's other feature event, the Bab Al Shams Welcome Stakes, saw Ahmad Al Ameen produced a faultless ride aboard Caleeto to win the jump-off in 36.65 seconds. His effort was worth Dhs 12,000.

Qatiri riders Falah Shuwaid Al Ajmi and Ali Yousef Al Rumaihi, were second and third respectively.
