New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi tonight hailed shuttler P.V. Sindhu’s victory in the semi-finals of the Rio Olympics, saying she had made India proud.

Sindhu is guaranteed a medal, be it gold or silver, after being Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara 21-19, 21-10.

“Superb performance @PvSindhu1. You make India proud! Best of luck for the finals. #Rio2016,” Modi tweeted.

Sindhu made history by becoming the first Indian shuttler to reach the finals of the women’s singles competition.

The two-time World Championship bronze medallist blew past the Japanese player in a match lasting 49 minutes.

The world Nnumber 10 from Hyderabad will take on two-time world champion and top seed Carolina Marin of Spain in the final on Friday (5.25pm UAE).
