Puyol and Carlos bring Clasico flavour to Dubai Mall

Dubai: La Liga legends Roberto Carlos and Carles Puyol were guests of honour at the du Football Champions finals at Dubai Mall ice rink on Friday.

Both led a side each in the legends match, which was made up of players who had won the chance to line up alongside the stars by entering a du draw.

The match was reminiscent of the time both players faced off in the El Clasico in Spain with Brazilian defender Carlos formerly of Real Madrid and Spanish defender Puyol formerly of Barcelona.

On this occasion however, Puyol had the upper hand over his old adversary with a 5-2 win over Carlos’ men.

The action followed a full day of matches that brought to an end six months of nationwide football in the School and Streets Cup, from which the best players will be selected to tour Spain for the possibility of a trial with La Liga clubs.
