Rumours have been circulating on social media about the limit being reduced to 80km/h
Dubai: How fast can you really drive on Shaikh Zayed Road?
Rumours have been circulating on social media recently about a change in the speed limit, claiming it was reduced to 80km/h.
But according to Dubai Police’s website, the speed limit on Shaikh Zayed Road is still the same at 100km/h. And with the additional 20km/h grace window, the radar will flash if you drive at 121km/h.
However, on the way towards Abu Dhabi, the speed limit is then raised to 120km/h and motorists are allowed to drive up to 141km/h.
The misunderstanding started when a media outlet reported a reduction in the speed limit.
But the reported change will take place on August 1, 2017, and it will actually affect Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Road in the emirate of Umm Al Quwain, and not Shaikh Zayed Road in Dubai.
According to media reports, the speed limit on both directions from Umm Al Quwain to Falaj Al Mualla will be reduced from 100km/h to 80km/h.
With the new UAE traffic law that took effect on July 1, motorists are advised to drive with caution as speeding fines can go up to Dh3,000 along with 23 black points.
