Dubai: In appreciation of the hard work and commitment of Dubai taxi drivers, the Roads and Transport Authority organised free dental and bone density check-ups for them.

The Dubai Dental Clinic (DDC) and Dubai Bone and Joint Centre (DBAJ) partnered with RTA to monitor the well-being of the emirate’s cabbies.

While dental health and oral hygiene are crucial to the overall well-being of an individual, bone density scanning measures bone loss. This non-invasive technology checks for osteoporosis — a disease in which the bones become fragile and stay at a high risk of breakage.

Dr Ali Al Hammadi, spokesperson for DBAJ, said: “Taxi drivers play a vital role in keeping Dubai moving. They spend long hours sitting in the same position and joint and muscle pains are not uncommon for people employed as professional drivers. This initiative underscores our commitment to provide people with musculoskeletal-related discomfort a chance to live pain-free lives.”

Dr Khowla Humaid Bel Houl, director of DDC, added: “We strive to provide quality dental care to different segments of society because we care to see people smile. It is important that those employed in the service industry have the confidence to smile every day, so by passing on our expert oral health care knowledge to these drivers, Dubai commuters will continue to benefit from smiling taxi drivers.”
