Dubai: The International Labour Conference elected a member of the UAE delegation as the vice-president of its 107th session, which began on Monday in Geneva.

Khalifa Mattar Al Kaabi was chosen to be the conference’s vice-president till June 8.

Nasser Bin Thani Al Hameli, UAE’s Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, said that the election of a member of the UAE as the vice-president of the conference, confirms the country’s leading position in international organisations and events, particularly since the International Labour Organisation is the only United Nations body that consists of three parties representing the government, employers and employees.

“This election reaffirms the confidence in the UAE’s capabilities to participate in the management of the conference’s operations, which is considered the highest ranking decision-making platform in the ILO. It highlights the trust in the UAE’s legislations and practices in the job market, which protect the rights of workers on temporary contracts and interests of employers within a balanced framework between the two parties,” said Al Hameli.

Al Hameli stressed the UAE delegation’s keenness to participate effectively in the conference’s committees and operations in a way that will reflect the most prominent achievements of the UAE in the labour market, which will in turn further bolster the UAE’s position in various fields and issues related to labour.

Al Kaabi emphasised his commitment to represent the UAE at the conference, to promote the UAE’s reputation and international leadership. He pointed out that he will use his 30 years experience to manage the 107th edition of the conference as its vice-president.
