Dubai: The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) will lift the six-month and one-year work permit bans issued against workers prior to July 31, it announced on Monday.
Nasser Thani Al Hameli, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, on Monday issued a decision specifying the rules and procedures for amending the status of workers with expired residency visas.
MoHRE said that it would revoke the work permit bans if workers apply for the amnesty within the deadline set by the UAE Cabinet’s decision. This will help them find new job opportunities and obtain new work permits as per ministry procedures.
This waiver will not apply for workers who have violated labour rules, such as the terms of employment set by fixed-term or indefinite employment contracts.
Organisations will not have to pay any of the fines accumulated by workers who overstayed their visas, as long as the status of these workers are amended as per UAE Cabinet’s decision, which allows employees to amend their status and their employers to rectify the status of their establishments as per the labour law.
Meanwhile, residency visa violators seeking to amend their status can register in a virtual job market – available on the MoHRE website and launched in coordination with the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (FAIC) – to boost their chances of finding a job.
The virtual job market will help those who amend their status to find jobs in establishments registered with the ministry.
