Abu Dhabi: The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation announced in two separate circulars on Sunday that public and private sectors will be given a holiday for the Hijri year 1439 on the first day of Muharram to mark the Islamic New Year.

Thursday, September 21, has been declared a holiday for both the public and private sectors in the UAE.

First day  of Islamic new year will either be on September 21 or September 22 depending on the moon sighting.

The circular was issued by Saqr Ghobash, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation.
