Dubai: Motorists obstructing traffic flow should watch out as Dubai Police has added a new feature to its smart application, allowing users to alert police.

Brigadier Khalid Nasser Al Razooqi, director of Artificial Intelligence at Dubai police, said the Apple store app has been updated to include the new service, while the Android store app will be updated later.

“Anyone who has Dubai Police app, can use it to alert about vehicles obstructing traffic. It will help to tackle motorists who block traffic,” Brigadier Al Razooqi said.

The users can report by simply taking a picture of violators and send it through the application. The police will contact the offender asking him to remove his car or face fines.

“With more people downloading the application, we wanted to add unique services. Options for paying traffic fines [are] now on the main page of the application and enable notification so the user receives notification whenever a traffic fine is registered under his profile,” Brigadier Al Razooqi added.

Meanwhile, more than 2.6 million people downloaded the Dubai Police app on Android and IOS stores. About 151,361 transactions were recorded through the application in 2017.

“We having more people downloading the application as it more useful to cut time and effort. We are working to transform all police services into smart services that can be done on smartphones. It is part of the smart government initiative.”
