Dubai: The Indian Festival of Lights, Diwali, is expected to fall on November 7 this year. However, some Indian expats celebrated it a week early at the Etisalat Academy Ground on Friday.

The 'Deepavali Utsav 2018’, organised by Friends of India under the auspices of Consulate General of India, Dubai, attracted many Indian nationals.

The Consul General of India, Vipul, who was also the chief guest at the event, thanked the Dubai Police for attending the event and extending their support.

More than 8,000 people joined in the celebrations

Performers in colourful garb presented Indian folk dances from different states in the country.

Award-winning singer Naresh Iyer was a star attraction and Kiran Kumar, former chairman of the ISRO, was among well-known dignitaries at the event.
