Dubai: A salesperson has been accused of impersonating a policeman and luring a cashier and his friend to meet him, before forcing the cashier to kiss a woman’s foot and apologise to her.

An Indian cashier is said to have received a call from a cop poser. The caller asked the cashier to meet him at a Metro station in Naif.

The cashier asked his friend, also an Indian national, to accompany him to meet the purported policeman, according to records. They went together to the meeting.

As the two Indian men arrived at the station, the man whom they thought was a policeman allegedly grabbed the cashier by the arm and forced him into a car, before his petrified friend also sat beside him.

Records said the purported policeman drove his vehicle to the Business Bay area where he made the cashier meet with a Pakistani woman, apologise to her and kiss her foot.

Reported to police

After the man dropped the Indian friends back in Sharjah, they reported the matter to the police.

Primary police interrogations led to the arrest of the alleged impersonator, who turned out to be a 27-year-old Pakistani salesperson.

Prosecutors accused the suspect of posing as a policeman and using deceptive methods to lure the cashier and his friend to a meeting.

Records did not mention the nature of the relationship between the cashier, the suspect and the woman.

The 27-year-old suspect pleaded not guilty and denied the allegations when he appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Monday.

“I did not kidnap them or impersonate a policeman. I called the cashier and asked him to meet me up at the metro station,” he argued before presiding judge Habib Awad.

Meanwhile, the suspect’s lawyer argued before judge that the Pakistani woman has left the country and she was the reason behind what she called the “malicious case”.

The cashier told prosecutors: “I took my friend with me and we went to meet the purported policeman, who turned out to be the suspect. He shouted at me and then forced me into his car. He drove me to Business Bay and made me apologise to the woman and kiss her foot.”

The Indian friend confirmed the cashier’s statement.

The trial continues.
