Tunis: Online reports about results of the Tunisian elections held abroad were on Saturday evening dismissed by the elections commission as baseless allegations.
“The ballot count has not started and all the results being circulated on the internet and mobile phones are not true,” Kemal Jendoubi, the head of the Independent Higher Commission for the Elections, said.

“In fact, the results of the voting by Tunisian expatriates will be announced at the same time as those of the elections in Tunisia in order to avoid any form of influence,” he said.
Around 340,000 expatriate Tunisians were given Thursday, Friday and Saturday to cast their ballots and elect 18 of the 217 members who will form the constituent assembly that will draft the new constitution.
Early in the evening, messages emerged on social networks and mobiles giving alleged results in Australia and several Arab countries.
The reports claimed that Ennahdha, the moderate Islamist party that received its licence only eight months ago, is leading in the polls with percentages that varied between 60 and 82 per cent.
