Abu Dhabi The court heard initial arguments in the case of a man accused of luring a child from a mosque and attempting to rape him.

An eyewitness testified that he saw the man walk out of the mosque with the child. After the prayer, the 16-year-old eyewitness, who is also a relative of the accused, passed by the accused's house and heard a child's screams pleading to be left alone. The teenager rushed to get the child's father and both went to the accused's home. The child was leaving in tears and told his father that the accused had hit him.

When questioned, the child reported that the accused took him home, kissed him and attempted to rape him, but the child resisted kicking the accused in the leg in an effort to escape.

The father pleaded with the court for justice, stating that the incident has caused his child to suffer from psychological problems, lack of sleep, and continuous fear of adults. He confirmed that the appearance and behaviour of the accused when they confronted him at home left no doubt about his guilt.

The court postponed the case until April 23.
