Islamabad: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has not yet forged any electoral or political alliance with Ejaz-ul-Haq, the Pakistan Muslim League-Zia (PML-Z) candidate in NA 169, Bahawalnagar.

Sherry Rahman, the leader of the Opposition in Senate, told Pakistan’s upper house that the PPP could not fathom any pact with the son or party of former president General Zia-ul-Haq, accusing the PML-Z of playing a major role in promoting extremism and terrorism in the country. Rahman said extremists could not be affiliated with the PPP.

“Imagine the situation when the extremists sit in the parliament with us,” Rahman said. “A minority of extremists have hijacked the ideology of Pakistan.”

However, she said it is heartening to note that Pakistani people had never elected the extremists, instead rejecting them at every turn.

Rahman also claimed that the PPP was not being allowed to organise public gatherings in various cities of Balochistan.

Referring to the Election Commission of Pakistan’s result management system, Rahman said various areas of Balochistan still do not have access to internet services, thus making free, fair and transparent election impossible.
