Islamabad: Unanimous disapproval by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) voters, workers, leaders and public at large, Wednesday, forced newly-elected Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) Dr Imran Shah to visit the man he had slapped a day earlier on a Karachi road to apologise.

The provincial assembly’s member visited the man named Dawood’s house along with party’s provincial President Dr Firdos Shamim Naqvi and apologised to him for misbehaviour.

On Tuesday, Shah assaulted Dawood on a busy road over a trivial matter in front of dozens of people and in the presence of his own armed bodyguards.

Video footage of the incident went viral and PTI workers, voters and leaders unanimously disapproved the act of violence by a public representative of the party.

Social media was literally flooded by tweets and re-tweets, with many people saying they felt deeply hurt to see a PTI politician doing what the party itself had been condemning for years. “Is this the change PTI has been promising to its voters,” said they and called for action against Shah by party chairman Imran Khan.

According to them, Dr Imran Ali Shah through that bullish act brought bad name to himself, his party and voters of PTI.

Later, the video caught eye of chairman PTI Imran Khan and according to PTI’s nominee for Sindh governorship, Imran Ismael, Khan highly disapproved Shah’s bad behaviour and “was quite upset.” A show-cause notice was issued to Dr Shah by the party’s provincial leadership for his disregard to his duty as a public representative of PTI and for misconduct.

The notice says that Shah should present his version “within 24 hours” otherwise he would be referred to the disciplinary committee for appropriate action.

PTI Sindh president Dr Firdos Shamim Naqvi on his twitter account also mentioned that he had seen the video footage and “once all the facts are known we will let everyone know of the future course of action.”

In the video it can be clearly seen that Dr Shah’s armed personal guards surrounded the man and he slapped him.

On Wednesday, however, Dr Shah visited Dawood’s house and apologised to him for his bad behaviour.

On his twitter account, Dr Shah has posted the following message: “I never wanted to take the law into my own hands, however it was in the spur of the moment that I momentarily lost my cool and reacted in a way that brought embarrassment to my position, my party and my supporters. Thereby, I sincerely and unconditionally apologise to Mr Dawood and my voters and supporters for my behaviour. I hope that you all will accept my apology and I promise to observe my conduct that is expected of me both morally and officially by the party’s code of conduct.”
