Dubai: Pakistani expatriates in the UAE hope that voters come out in large numbers on election day (July 25) to vote for the best candidates.

They said the people should ‘vote for Pakistan’ and chose the best candidate from their constituencies as it will lead to the election of the best politicians to the power corridors.

Gulf News spoke to cross section of Pakistani expatriates living in the UAE:

Shabeer Merchant, Dubai resident entrepreneur, said: “I wish the best candidate may win. Whosoever wins should work for the country and not for personal gains. This is the best chance to bring change in the country and I am very optimistic about it.”

Malik Zaheer Awan, Abu Dhabi based engineer, said: “This is an opportunity for nation to vote for visionary and honest leadership who can get us out of the current political, economic and energy crisis and create business friendly policies.”

Tahir Muneer Tahir: Dubai based journalist, said: “I hope this elections will be transparent under the supervision of army. We need to ensure continuity of democracy with the elections of the best candidates to ensure peace and stability.”

Irfan Afsar Awan, a Dubai resident, said: “We can see a new and very strong wave of confidence and change. The new government will surely know that they will have to think twice before doing any kind of corruption.”

Shama Butt, a Sharjah resident, said: “We want the new government to work on women’s rights and give them job opportunities in the nation building process. Special health and educational facilities should be set up for women across the country.”

Raheela Tabassam, an Ajman resident, said: “People should vote for the best candidates regardless of their cast and party affiliation as this is the only way to bring the right people in the parliament to honestly work for the country.”
