Dubai: Authorities in Pakistan have arrested a four-member gang for luring people to sell their livers in India in return for hefty amounts of money.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), which busted the syndicate, said the accused made fake documents for potential ‘donors’ to take them to India for liver transplants.
A senior official in Lahore told Gulf News the arrests are expected to lead to a bigger international gang involved in organ transplants in the country and abroad.
The suspects took people to India for liver transplants by promising them hefty amount of money, reports carried by Geo TV said, quoting FIA officials.
The gang members would then take these donors across the border from Pakistan to India using fake medical documents but give them small amounts of money for the transplants.
The FIA said the gang was arrested in a nearby village near the Wagah border following a tip-off from the Punjab Human Organs Transplantation Authority.
The officials recovered passports, dollars and fake medical documents suspects and registered a case against them.
This is not the first case illegal organ transplant in the country as the FIA had arrested three people for their involvement in illegal kidney transplant in 2017.
According to the FIA officials, the accused would bring people from foreign countries to Pakistan to illegally provide them with the organ.
