Dubai: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party suffered another setback after it lost a key seat in Peshawar in the ongoing by-elections.

#ImranYouHaveFailed was one of the top trends on Twitter in Pakistan as tweeps reacted to the news that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lost the PK-71 seat, which was vacated by the current Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shah Farman.

Online, many social media users questioned the current government’s policies as well as its win in the general elections.

@LucidViews__ noted: “Peshawar is considered as the strongest hub of PTI in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. They have lost two seats PK-71 and PK-78 in eight days’ time to ANP [Awami National Party]. #ImranYouHaveFailed”

@arman_khokher tweeted: “Imran Khan is famously known as a master of u-turns in Pakistan politics. He proposes a policy and works according to it for a few months. After some time, he contradicts himself and brings up another new policy and works on it. #ImranYouHaveFailed”

@GeminianSatti added: “This proves that the general elections were rigged and PTI has lost the little amount of love it had among people.”

However, many social media users criticised the trend as well as the people using it for expecting too much, too quickly.

@owais_khakwani wrote: “My nation, after supporting several years of shameless corruption and stubborn dynasties, are posting #ImranYouHaveFailed within 100 days of Khan’s government.”

@Mariam_Jamali added: “#ImranYouHaveFailed Wow, amazing! How could you decide this so early? Other politicians like Nawaz [Sharif] and [Asif Ali] Zardari, who looted this country, haven’t done anything good and divided this nation. Yet, they have not failed.”

@MuntahaKhan_ wrote: “#ImranYouHaveFailed No Imran, you haven’t! You are the hope for millions and you know it and you won’t ever give up just because they won’t ever see or let Pakistan progress. Pakistan is destined to rise under your leadership, and the propagandists will fail.”
