Dubai: Imran Khan took to Twitter to thank citizens of Karachi for contributing to the Diamer Bhasha and Mohmand Dam fund after he had pleaded for donations from Pakistanis across the world.

The Pakistani Prime Minister had a one-day visit, on Sunday, to the largest city in the country, in which he attended a fundraiser for the cause at the Sindh Governor House.

Consequently, large contributions made their way.

In a tweet posted today, Khan, @ImranKhanPTI, wrote: “I want to thank the people of Karachi for their generosity in supporting the Dam Fund. Rs 76 crores [Dh 22,664,672] were raised at this Dam fundraiser.”

His post has since received over 3,500 retweets and over 18,000 likes.

Twitter user Anjum Yaqoob, @anjumyaqoob3031, thanked Karachites as well: “I am so happy and hopeful for dam construction because Prime Minister Mr. Imran Khan appealed for donation in the lightning city of Pakistan-Karachi. Thanks to Karachi,”

Tweep Zahid Afridi, @zahidshahafridi, also appreciated the efforts: “Karachi is throwing money at the dam like it’s the end of days in a bid to welcome @ImranKhanPTI. The Prime Minister has always believed in the City of Lights. #PminKarachi”

However, Twitter user Nasheed Malik, @NasheedM15, disagreed and thought that the city does not get enough attention: “Imran Khan sahab (sir) with all due respect Karachi keeps giving but gets nothing in return. In your full support. But please start giving Karachi the return it deserves.”

Some were entirely upset by the leader’s post and demanded that other groups’ contributions also get recognised by the leader. Twitter user, Fareed Memon, @fareeedmemon, wrote: “You received funds in billions but you tweeted only for Karachi, why? Others’ money is not important for constructing dams.”
