Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan has declared his own assets worth more than Rs38 million (Dh1.14 million) in his nomination papers, stating that he does not own any property or business abroad.

The total value of Khan’s belongings as on June 30 of the current financial year are Rs38,694,493, according to the Election Commission of Pakistan’s document — copies of which are available with Gulf News.

The details of assets owned by contestants of the elections have been made public by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to help voters to hold their leaders accountable and to ensure transparency in the polls. The ECP would soon publish the asset details of every candidate on its website, according to ECP spokesperson Nadeem Qasim.

Khan’s affidavits attached to his nomination papers revealed that his earnings from agriculture, salary and bank profits was Rs4,776,611 in the year 2017 and he paid Rs103,763 in taxes last year.

According to the documents, Khan does not own any businesses in Pakistan or abroad.

The cricketer-turned-politician owns 14 properties within Pakistan, most of which are stated as “inherited”. His residential property in Bani Gala is worth Rs11.47 million and an apartment worth Rs11.97 million in Islamabad while he also owns 243 kanal (122,923 sq m) land in Bhakkar, which is worth Rs4.2 million, according to report published in The News.

The PTI chief has also submitted details of his foreign trips along with his nomination papers to the ECP.

The expenditure on this year’s three-day trip to the United Kingdom is reported to be Rs240,000 as per the documents submitted to the ECP. In the last three years, he has travelled to UAE, Turkey, Maldives, Saudi Arabia (for Umrah), India and UK with most of the trips being sponsored.

Earlier, the statement of possessions submitted by politicians revealed that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz owned assets worth Rs845 million while the assets owned by former president and co-chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Asif Ali Zardari, is around Rs758.66 million.
