Islamabad: Sana Jamal, Gulf News correspondent in Islamabad, has won two awards for her feature stories published in the newspaper this year.
She received two Agahi Awards 2017 at a ceremony held in Islamabad on Friday, attended by officials, foreign diplomats, intellectuals and journalists.
She won the awards in IT and Culture/Tourism categories of the Agahi Awards, Pakistan’s prestigious journalism awards which recognises the best journalists across print, TV, radio and digital platforms.
Gulf News was praised at the ceremony for highlighting the real Pakistan as Sana Jamal received awards for two articles.
The first piece focused on how Pakistani female entrepreneurs are giving voice to the voiceless through first speech therapy mobile App in Urdu language. The app called Bolo Tech aims to help people suffering from speech disorders.
The second article described the struggle and achievement of a Pakistani boy from Gilgit who is on a solo-mission to promote tourism by inviting foreign tourists to Pakistan. The story projects soft image of Pakistan, promoting tourism in a country hit by terrorism.
The Agahi Awards received more than 3,000 nominations this year from all over Pakistan. Leading national and international media experts, opinion-makers and development experts were part of the judges’ panel.
“This year Agahi Awards celebrates responsibilities in 2017 as the nation marks its 70th year of independence — we should recognise the tremendous effort of the journalist community,” said Puruesh Chaudhary, President of Agahi and the co-founder of Agahi Awards.
