A four-member gang have been arrested in Pakistan for luring people to sell their liver in India in return of hefty sums of money.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has busted the gang members, stating that they made fake documents for potential "donors" to take them to India for liver transplant.
A senior official in Lahore told Gulf News that the scam is much bigger that they initially thought and those who are arrested are expected to lead authorities to a bigger international gang involved in organ transplant in the country and abroad.
The suspects took the people to India for liver transplant by promising them hefty amount of money, reports carried by Geo TV says quoting FIA officials.
The gang members then would take these donors across the border from Pakistan to India on fake medical documents but give them minimal amount of money for the transplant.
Arrest
The FIA said that the gang members were arrested in a village near the Wagah border following a tip-off from the Punjab Human Organs Transplantation Authority.
The officials recovered passports, dollars and fake medical documents suspects and registered a case against them.
This is not the first case illegal organ transplant in the country as the FIA had arrested three people for their involvement in illegal kidney transplant in 2017.
According to the FIA officials, the accused would bring people from foreign countries to Pakistan to illegally provide them with the organ.
