New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh (UP) Deputy Chief Minister (CM) Dinesh Sharma on Friday sparked a controversy by stating that the advanced medical procedure of test tube conception existed during the period of ‘Ramayana’, and Goddess Sita was born using similar method.

“People say Sitaji was born from an earthen pot, which means at the time of ‘Ramayana’, a concept similar to test tube conception must have existed,” Sharma told media.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader went on to say that electronic journalism began during the period of ‘Mahabharata’.

“Today, live telecast is being done, but I think a similar technology was present at the time of ‘Mahabharata’, when Sanjay presented a ‘live telecast’ of the battle to the king, Dhritarashtra,” Sharma claimed.

He went on to equate the mythological character of ‘Narada’ to search engine Google.

“Your Google has started now, but our Google started a long time back. ‘Narad Muni’ was the epitome of information. He could reach anywhere and transfer a message from one place to another by saying ‘Narayana’ three times,” he said.

The Deputy CM said that all the modern technology used today existed during those times.

“Today, if we talk about aircraft, we can compare it with the ‘Pushpak vimaan’ on which Lord Ram used to fly from Ayodhya to Lanka,” Sharma said.

Reacting to Sharma’s statement, Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha leader Swami Chakrapani said, “How can one link Sita ji to worldly and physical things? She was an avatar of Goddess Laxmi. Such statements are an insult to her and the entire Sanatan Dharma.”

Earlier, Tripura CM Biplab Deb had also claimed that internet existed during the period of ‘Mahabharata’.

“The internet and satellite communication existed in the days of ‘Mahabharata’. The Europeans and the Americans may claim that it is theirs, but it is actually our technology,” Deb had said in March.

Deb said that India possessed the modern technology of the West millions of years ago.

“We had all the technology that the West boasts of. I feel proud that I am born in a country with such an advanced technology. It is because of this fact that the countries which claim themselves to be technologically advanced are hiring Indian talent to upgrade their software mechanism,” he had said.
