Mumbai: The Pune University office of political scientist Suhas Phalsikar was vandalised by some miscreants, a day after he and psephologist Yogendra Yadav found themselves in a controversy over an "objectionable" cartoon of the author of the Indian Constitution, B.R. Ambedkar.
The activists of Republican Panthers of India have claimed responsibility for the attack on Phalsikar's office at Pune University, where he is head of the department for Politics and Public Administration.
Though Phalsikar was present in his office at the time of attack, he was not injured. The attack saw the miscreants smash the furniture and glass panes at his office. The police have detained two activists of the Republican Panthers of India in connection with the incident.
Following an uproar in both the Houses of the Indian Parliament over the "objectionable" cartoon of the late Ambedkar in a 11th standard text book, Phalsikar and Yadav had on Friday resigned as the chief advisers to the National Council of Educational Research and Training which published the book.
Federal Human Resources Minister Kapil Sibal had tendered his apology and said that the text book, Indian Constitution at Work, would not be distributed further in the country.
