Dubai: If you frequently drive across the UAE, you've likely noticed that each emirate has its own rules when it comes to public parking, different systems, fees, timings, and even SMS formats. But there’s now a simpler solution - the Parkin app.

While Parkin is Dubai’s official parking operator, the app also allows you to pay for parking in other emirates like Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Ajman through a feature that connects to each emirate’s SMS-based mParking service.

How to pay for parking in other emirates through the Parkin app:

  1. Download the Parkin app from your app store.

  2. Open the menu and go to the Services section.

  3. Select Other Emirates.

  4. Choose the emirate, parking duration, and enter your vehicle details.

  5. You will be shown a pre-filled SMS with the correct format and recipient number. Simply hit send.

  6. The parking fee will be deducted from your mobile balance.

So, whether you're in Sharjah or Abu Dhabi, the Parkin app gives you a quick and centralised way to manage parking across the UAE.

Parking timings and fees by emirate

Each emirate still maintains its own parking rules, so understanding the local timings and fees remains important.

Abu Dhabi:

In Abu Dhabi, paid parking is managed by Mawaqif and operates from 8am to 12 midnight, Monday through Saturday. Parking is free on Sundays and public holidays. There are two zones:

  • Standard (blue and black curbs): Dh2 per hour or Dh15 for 24 hours

  • Premium (blue and white curbs): Dh3 per hour

Sharjah

Sharjah also has its own system with two types of zones. The standard parking zones operate from 8am to 10pm, Saturday to Thursday. Meanwhile, the seven-day parking zones operate daily, including Fridays and public holidays from 8am to 12midnight. Both types of zones charge the same rate of Dh2 per hour, but the timing differences are crucial for avoiding fines.

Ajman

In Ajman, paid parking hours typically run from 8am to 1pm and from 5pm to 10pm, Saturday through Thursday. Parking is free on Fridays and public holidays. Some areas, particularly those near parks, offer free parking daily from 4pm to 1am.

Things to keep in mind:

  • This service is available to e&, du, and Virgin Mobile subscribers in the UAE.

  • Make sure you have enough balance in your mobile account to cover the parking fee and a 30 fils telecom service charge.

  • This SMS-based system is known as mParking.
