What is an interchange station?

The Dubai Metro has three lines – the Red Line, the Green Line and the ‘Branch Line’. Commuters can switch from one line to another at stations where the two lines meet. These stations are referred to as interchange stations.

New route for Red Line

From June 1, the Red Line has started providing an uninterrupted route from Centrepoint station all the way to the Expo 2020 station, without the need for people to switch trains at an interchange station.

So, the route for the previous Red Line, which plied down to the UAE Exchange Station, was changed. Now, if you wish to head towards the UAE Exchange station (on the Branch Line), you will have to switch trains at the Jabal Ali station.

New station names

Recently, the RTA also announced that the names of certain stations have been changed.

These include:

Al Rashidiya station, which has now been renamed Centrepoint station. This is one of the two terminal stations on the Red Line.

Al Jafiliya station, which has now been renamed Max Fashion station. This station falls on the Red Line.

Dubai Marina station, which has now been renamed Sobha Realty station. This station falls on the Red Line.
