Dubai: Parents in Dubai can now obtain their child's birth certificate entirely online because of a new digital service recently launched by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA). The system allows parents to apply, submit documents, and receive the certificate without visiting a customer service centre, making the process faster and more convenient.

The service offers birth certificates in Arabic, English, or Urdu. The process begins when hospitals in Dubai submit the birth notification and required documents through an electronic system. Parents can then complete the application online, pay the necessary fees, and receive the birth certificate within one working day. Certificates are delivered via email or mobile phone, with an option to request a printed copy through a courier service.

According to DHA, the new system aims to simplify the process and improve accessibility for families in Dubai.

Required documents

For UAE citizens, the required documents include:

  • Original Emirates ID or family book (for both parents)

  • Original marriage certificate (authenticated if issued outside the UAE) or an official document confirming the child’s lineage

  • Original birth notification stamped by the hospital

  • Digital copies of these documents must be uploaded after hospital verification

For residents (non-citizens), the required documents are:

  • Original Emirates ID or passport (for both parents)

  • Original marriage certificate (authenticated if issued outside the UAE) or an official document confirming the child’s lineage

  • Original birth notification stamped by the hospital

  • Digital copies of these documents must be uploaded after hospital verification

For a lost birth certificate replacement:

  • Submit the application online by the father or mother

  • Include copies of both parents' Emirates IDs or passports

  • Provide a police report confirming the loss (if a copy of the original certificate is unavailable)

For reissuing additional copies:

  • Submit the application online

  • Upload a copy of the original birth certificate

  • Attach copies of both parents' Emirates IDs or passports
