When is Eid Al Fitr in the UAE?

According to recent interview with Gulf News, Ibrahim Al-Jarwan, Emirati astronomer and Chairman of the Emirates Astronomy Society, revealed that precise astronomical calculations indicate the impossibility of sighting the Shawwal crescent after sunset on Saturday, March 29, 2025.

Based on these calculations, the Emirates Astronomy Society anticipates that Ramadan will be completed in full 30 days, with Sunday, March 30, 2025, marking the last day of the holy month. Consequently, Eid Al-Fitr is expected to fall on Monday, March 31, 2025.

Eid Al Fitr break for private and public sector in UAE

For the private sector, the public holiday will run from Sunday, 30th March to Tuesday, 1st April, with all private sector employees enjoying paid leave during this time. Should the month of Ramadan conclude on the 30th day, the holiday will be extended until Wednesday, 2nd April 2025.

For the public sector, the Eid Al Fitr holiday for federal government employees will be observed from 1st to 3rd Shawwal 1446 AH, with official work resuming on 4th Shawwal.

If the crescent moon of Shawwal is sighted on the evening of Saturday, March 29, Eid Al Fitr will begin on Sunday, March 30, making Sunday the first day of Eid. In this case, the official holiday will span Sunday to Tuesday, granting most workers a four-day weekend from Saturday to Tuesday.

However, if the moon is not visible on Saturday evening, Ramadan will last for 30 days, and Eid will begin on Monday, March 31. This scenario would result in an extended five-day weekend for many residents, running from Saturday through to Wednesday.
