    Five steps everyone needs to follow during the holiday season

    As the festive season begins, with the UAE National day, Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebration coming up, the UAE’s authorities have stressed on the need for people to adhere to COVID-19 precautions at all times.

    Dr Saif Al Dhaheri, spokesman of the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) held a media briefing on November 17 to inform the public of the safety measures that need to be adhered to at all times.

    Concerts can be held only after receiving approval from authorities and only with the application of all precautionary measures.

    Workplace celebrations are cancelled and restricted to the hanging of decorations, flags and banners only, while gatherings to watch shows such as fireworks are not permitted.

    Private parties and gatherings are not allowed. At public events that have been approved by the relevant authorities, areas for isolation of sick individuals must be provided. Entry and exit routes at all facilities should be clearly marked.

    Any gathering needs to adhere to five basic principles: 1. Ensuring public health – people need to wear masks, temperature checks should be carried out and workers should be trained on health and safety guidelines.

    2.	Ensuring physical distance of two metres at all times. 3.	Adhering to the regulations and policies for the event.

    4.	Digital technology – you can hold remote digital celebrations only. For approved events, advance reservations should be encouraged and the event should not last for longer than three to four hours.

    5.	Sterilisation and cleaning - The rules call for continuous cleaning and sterilisation each hour for all public facilities.
