Dubai: If you are using your Emirates ID to register for an online service, you may be required to complete a two-step verification, which includes a one-time password (OTP) being sent to your registered mobile number.

However, if your mobile number has changed, or if you wish to update the mobile number registered with your Emirates ID for any other reasons, how can you do so?

Gulf News raised the query with the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP), which provided a link to the online service, which can be availed by Emirates ID holders who do not have an existing online account with ICP.

Here are the details steps you need to follow for each option.

Steps for Emirates ID card holders who do not have an existing online account with ICP

Step 1: Enter details of your request

You will be required to fill in the following details:

Current Nationality – Select your nationality from a dropdown menu.

File type - Select 'residency'.

You can then choose two options - 'Inquiry by File Number' and 'Inquiry by Identity Number'.

1. File Number – The file number is printed on your residence visa, which is stamped in your passport. While filling out the form, you will see the file number slots contain the following sections: department; year; service; sequence.

- Under the first category, ‘Department’, you would need to fill in the three digit code that your file number starts with. For example, 101, 201, 301 etc.

- Under ‘Year’, fill in the following four digits of your file number. This is the year that your visa was first issued.

- Under ‘Category', fill in the first digit of the last part of your file number. This is applicable for visas issued in all emirates, except Dubai.

- Under 'Sequence’ fill in the remaining digits.

2. Identity Number – this is the Emirates ID number, printed on the front of the card.

Passport No. – Enter your passport number here.

Full name (English) – Fill in your name exactly like it is printed on your Emirates ID.

Full name (Arabic) – The system will automatically generate the Arabic version of your name.

Date of Birth – select the exact date from the calendar.

Last Entry Date – this should be the last entry stamp on your passport, for when you entered the borders of the UAE.

Email – provide your email address here.

• Check the box for your current mobile number, as registered with ICA.

• Enter the new mobile number. You will then receive a one-time password on the new number, which you need to enter into the form.

• Next, add your address details.

• Select the captcha verification and proceed.

Step 2: Review application

The system will then provide the updated details to you, which you need to verify. If you wish to make any changes, you can return to Step 1 to do so. Once you have confirmed the details, proceed to the final step.

Step 3: Make the payment

You will then be redirected to a payment portal, where you would need to make the online payment for the e-service. 

Once you have made the payment, you will be redirected to the ICP website, where you will receive a notification informing you that the request has been successfully made and your details updated.

• Visit smartservices.icp.gov.ae

• Scroll down a little and you will see the option to log in to the right of the screen. Log in using your UAE Pass account or your existing ICP account.

• Select the 'Department' that has issued your residence visa. This will be the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) of the emirate that has issued your residence visa.

• Under the 'module' section, select 'other services'.

• Scroll down to the list of services that the system shows and select 'OTHER SERVICES-PERSONAL INFORMATION-UPDATE PERSONAL INFORMATION-UPDATE'.

• Click on 'Start service'.

• Under 'service benficiary', check the box 'the same person', as the system will also show your dependants, whose visa you are sponsoring. Once you check the box, the system will register you as the service beneficiary.

• Check the box 'Edit mobile number'. Enter your updated mobile number and click on the 'Send One Time Password (OTP)' button.

• Enter the OTP you receive via SMS and click on 'Check OTP'.
If you have entered the OTP correctly, you should be able to see a message pop up on the top right of the screen stating 'OTP vaildated succesfully'.

• Click 'Next'.

• The system will then show you a summary of the request, including your file details and the old and new mobile numbers, as per your request. Click 'Next'.

• Make the payment for the service using your credit or debit card.

Once you have made the payment, you will be redirected to the ICP website, where you will receive a notification informing you that the request has been successfully made and your details updated.

Cost of the service

Here is a breakdown of the service cost:

E-services fees - Dh29.40
ICP fees - Dh122
Total: Dh151.40 (including Value Added Tax - VAT)

Once the mobile number registered to your Emirates ID has been updated, you can then conveniently use all the government smart services that are available to citizens and residents, and which may require you to register using your Emirates ID.
