1. Sanitiser spray

Spray each note, and make sure you don't miss any spots. Leave them out to dry before keeping them in your wallet.

Dr Vyas felt that washing hands with soap and water regularly, or sanitising them, is more important.

2. Soap and water

Dr Zaineb Sabri, Internal Medicine Specialist at Medcare Hospital, Sharjah, said that cleaning currency with a cloth soaked in soap and water and leaving it to dry is also a good way to disinfect your currency.

Coins can easily be cleaned using soap and water.

3. Disinfectant wipes

Dr Sabri said that as banknotes are resilient, you can use a disinfectant wipes to clean the notes.

2. Wear gloves

3. Carry a plastic bag

Keeping currency in a bag instead of directly in your wallet is recommended.

How to remove gloves correctly.

Pinch and hold the outside of the glove near the wrist area.

Peel downwards and away and hold the inside-out glove with the gloved hand.

Slide your fingers underneath the gloved hand taking care to not touch the outside of the glove.

With both gloves turned inside out dispose them carefully in a closed bin.
