1. House of Cards

The American political thriller series may be a remake of a British series carrying the same name, but it has made Kevin Spacey the de facto poster-boy for Netflix. Sit back and watch Spacey’s Congressman Frank Underwood manipulate his peers to suit his own agenda.

2. Jessica Jones

Jessica Jones is 2016’s “big thing”. A Marvel action hero, the cold Jones (played by Krysten Ritter) turns her hand to private investigation after her career as a superhero ends in tragedy. We can’t give too much away but it is awesome!

3. Better Call Saul

Breaking out of the Breaking Bad universe, this spin-off quickly silenced the sceptics and is now one of Netflix’s most-watched shows. Played by Bob Odenkirk, Saul does all he can to keep out of court. It’s black comedy but heart-warming enough. A must-watch.

4. Daredevil

Made just for Netflix, Daredevil is another Marvel Action Heroes show that, surprisingly, works rather well. It stays true to the film of the same name and is ideal for those who just can’t get enough of the action hero/crime combo that has so-defined the 2010s. Charlie Cox stars.

5. Fargo

Who wouldn’t have believed that the 1996 film classic Fargo would spin off its own TV series, but sure enough it has and it is a humdinger. The first series stars Martin Freeman, Allison Tolman, Colin Hanks and the hilarious Billy-Bob Thornton. It’s a dark comedy drama, so your humour must be advanced. If you prefer kittens and flower arranging, then this may not be for you.

6. Narcos

An American crime drama show, it originally aired as a Netflix exclusive. It follows the true story of drug kingpin Pablo Escobar, who made billions through the production and distribution of Class A drugs. The show also sees him take on rival gangs and the authorities. It’s dark and intense and not for softies.

7. Sense8

This sci-fi epic is another exclusive to Netflix and touches on an original plot. Eight strangers are joined together after they all experience a vision of a brutal murder. They try to come to terms with their unique telepathy, but are in danger from a protagonist who wants to exploit their powers.

8. Sons of Anarchy

Following the lives of an outlaw motorbike gang operating in California, the show stars Charlie Hunnam as Jackson "Jax" Teller, initially the vice president of the club, who begins questioning the club and himself. It’s fresh and original and well worth a watch.

9. The Thick of It

The Thick of It is one of Britain’s best-ever comedy dramas. It follows a fictional branch of the British Government who demonstrate not-so fictional incompetence. They are constantly abused by Malcolm Tucker (Peter Capaldi) who is based on Tony Blair’s former spin-doctor Alistair Campbell. If you are sensitive to profanity, then don’t watch this. If you want an insight into the British Government, then don’t miss it.

Seasons 4

10. The Trip

Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon play fictionalised versions of themselves as they tour restaurants in Northern England. The premise may sound a bit off but it is British TV quirkiness at its very best. Not much more needs be said, but it is side-splitting.
