They say he has the most distinctive voice in the music business. It's a distinctive voice that's en route to Dubai.
Rod Stewart and Spandau Ballet will appear live in concert at 7he Sevens Stadium in Dubai on Friday, May 7.
In what promises to be one of the biggest and most mind-blowing concerts of 2010, industry legend Stewart will perform at a gig taking people through the decades.
One of the most successful entertainers of all time, with album and single sales topping 250 million, Stewart will perform from his extensive song catalogue including hits such as Maggie May, Tonight's the Night and Have I Told You Lately.
But if that's just not enough for you, then the fact he will be supported by one of the most influential bands of the '80s should just about do it.
"We can't wait to get to Dubai and perform there for the first time," said Spandau Ballet's lead singer Tony Hadley. "There is a such an international community over there and it is great to be able to take our show over to them. Our shows in the UK and Europe have gone down so well, we can't wait to carry on playing.
"To be able to perform on the same bill as the legendary Rod Stewart will be great fun and such an honour."
‘Support a legend'
Spandau Ballet became the band of the 1980s with Hadley lending his silky vocals to hit singles including Gold, True and Through The Barricades, many of which still haunt the airwaves today.
Currently touring Europe, Hadley said the group is "ready to support a legend".
Stewart will perform all the favourites from a career which spans decades of disco, funk, blues, R&B, pop, rock, jazz, and even swing and big band.
Presented by AEG Live, managing director Thomas Ovesen said the shows will be "something very special".
It's the first concert event hosted by the venue — home to the famous Dubai Rugby 7s tournament every November — and President of Emirates Group Services and Dnata Gary Chapman says he is delighted the venue was hand-picked for the concert.
"7he Sevens has quickly established a reputation for successfully hosting major events. It is another exciting step for us to be staging a concert featuring legendary acts like Rod Stewart and Spandau Ballet and we look forward to UAE music fans coming to 7he Sevens to see more acts of this calibre in the future."
The venue will play host to 20,000 people that night. Tickets are expected to go on sale this week. For early registration and event details, visit rodstewartdubai.com
