Hamburg, Germany, on May 15 will be the centre of the automotive universe. That’s where and when Mercedes-Benz has officially confirmed it will be taking the wraps off its eagerly anticipated 2014 S-Class, before embarking on another tour of world domination in the high-end executive saloon segment. And about time too — it’s eight years since the W221 generation was first launched.

Supplementing Stuttgart’s income alongside the latest S-Class will, naturally, be the Coupé model currently known as the CL-Class, a car famous for having more torque than a dump truck (a cool 1,000Nm of torque in the CL65 AMG), but with a fair bit more refinement.

The latest S-Class coupé has been spied for the first time near the Arctic Circle while undergoing winter testing. The car is expected in the summer of 2014 as a 2015 model, ready to take on the best two-doors from Bentley and Co.

Expect only the finest materials, optional all-wheel drive, an obsession with lightweight aluminium, nothing but the silkiest twin-turbocharged V8s and V12s, as well as previously unheard of levels of personalisation. Oh, and one more thing; word on the grapevine is that they’re even doing an S-Class Cabriolet able to accommodate (sumptuously) you and your entire entourage.
