Baabul ost
Aadesh Srivastava
In director Ravi Chopra's previous film Baghban, Aadesh Srivastava created some excellent music. This time around, he does not disappoint, and delivers the goods in style. His tunes here are varied and show a perfect mix of classic and contemporary styles with a nice blend of melody and rhythm.
The album begins with a potential chartbuster Come On, Come On, a bhangra pop number. The highlight of this song is, of course, Amitabh Bachchan's voice. The sexagenarian superstar lends a nice vocal punch to this song and even outshines his co-singer Sonu Nigam in exuberance and enthusiasm. Nigam later teams up with Shreya Ghoshal to render the catchy duet Keh Raha Hai, but his best song on this album is Bawari Piya Ki. It is an Indian classical composition and Nigam is simply superb in his measured rendition. The rest of the songs too live up to the mark. All in all, a good buy.
Killer Remix
Various artistes
It has become an accepted norm in the music industry that every popular number should have a remix. This album, too, is filled with remixes of recent hits. Himesh Reshammiya features prominently with Ishq Kiya Kiya, Ahista Ahista, Lagi Chhote Na and Jhalak Dikhla Jaa. Of course, there are non-Himesh attractions as well such as the remixes of Teri Yaadon Mein, Kyun Aaj Kal, Hibbaki and Aisa Jadoo Dala Re.
Fakira/ Chor Machaye Shor
Ravindra Jain
It's flashback time with two Shashi Kapoor-films' soundtracks from the '70s. Composer Ravindra Jain comes up with some catchy melodies which have remained popular till date. Le Jayenge Le Jayenge and Ghungroo Ki Tarah from Chor Machaye Shor and and Dil Mein Tujhe Bithake from Fakira are the highlights.
Yahudi/ Azad
Shankar-Jaikishan, C. Ramchandra
Let's rewind to the golden era of the 1950s. This excellent combo features music from two movies starring Dilip Kumar. If Shankar-Jaikishan's Yahudi tunes Yeh Mera Diwanapan Hai and Meri Jaan are brilliant then C. Ramchandra's Azad compositions Na Bole Na Bole, Dekho Ji Bahar Aayi and Aplam Chaplam are exquisite too.
