Abu Dhabi/Dubai: It’s that time of year once again when, with the advent of Ramadan, the focus falls on healthy eating. Burger Hood – the country’s first Emirati neighbourhood burger concept with branches in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Dubai – is making sure that people end their fast this Ramadan absolutely guilt-free with their Zero Fat Burgers (Dh30).

I urge you to taste this marvel made of a grass-fed lean beef patty that’s painstakingly shorn of natural fat by hand.

I must admit not all foods that tempt are always laden with calories. There are exceptions and the ‘zero fat burger’, topped with low fat American cheddar, crisp iceberg lettuce, fresh tomatoes, large rings of white onions and their ‘secret’ BH special sauce, is surely one of them.

The bliss of biting into the burger lies in the buttery brioche, made in-house and the sauce made of mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard and pickles amongst other things that Burger Hood is hell-bent on preserving as a closely guarded secret.

For an original beef burger experience though you could order their regular beef burger (Dh28) made with the same delightful bun topped with similar ingredients and the ‘special’ sauce. Only difference - the beef patty comes with all its natural fat you shouldn’t mind once in a while.

For non-beef eaters, their Grilled Chicken Burger (Dh38) that comes with pretty much the same combination but for a nicely grilled chicken breast topped with a zesty garlic mayo sauce, is greatly recommended.

However, if you asked me, the best of the lot is their pure veg Portobello Burger (Dh35) that has a giant Portobello mushroom nicely grilled on a bed of mouthwatering sun-dried mayo sauce, lettuce, tomatoes. What makes it pure bliss is its amazing fusion of roasted peppers, sautéed onions and a distinct taste of provolone cheese.

With a line-up of breads, sauces - from Creole to Hickory BBQ to Wasabi Mayo - and a wide range of toppings including caramelised onions and pickled relish, you can create your own burger as well for an iftar of a very different kind this Ramadan.
