Filipino rock artists Rico Blanco, 6 Cycle Mind and all-female rock band General Luna will headline the Filipino Back2BackBakan 2011 concert to be held at the World Trade Centre in Dubai on March 18. Back2BackBakan 2011 is another rock event that comes hot on the heels of the BisRock concert held at the same venue last month.
Returning to perform in Dubai is multi-talented rocker and actor Rico Blanco, who was one of the founding members of the successful rock band Rivermaya, where he juggled various roles as vocalist, keyboard player, guitarist and main songwriter from 1993 to 2007. Blanco, both as a solo artist and as a member of Rivermaya, has sold over a million albums in the Philippines and Southeast Asia.
Outside of the music scene, Blanco also dabbles in acting. He will soon be seen in the television series Immortal. He also sang Kahit Walang Sabihin for the same soap opera. He has also recently launched his own company, Balcony Entertainment, in cooperation with Warner Music Philippines.
6 Cycle Mind will offer Dubai rock fans a taste of their distinct musical style characterised by a fusion of alternative music and pop music. The band has successfully released five albums under Sony Music Philippines: Permission to Shine (2003), Panorama (2005), Home (2007), Fiesta! Magsasaya Ang Lahat (2007) and Project: 6cyclemind (2009). Tito Fortunato "Tutti" Caringal is the band's frontman with Ryan "Rye" Sarmiento on rhythm guitars and backing vocals, Bobby "Bob" Cañamo plays bass guitar and Vic Aquino is on drums and backing vocals.
General Luna is reputed to be only the second all-female band to make it big in the Philippines after Prettier Than Pink. The band members are Nicole Asensio on vocals, Caren Mangaran on lead guitar, Audry Dionisio on rhythm guitar, Alex Montemayor on bass guitar and Bea Lao on drums.
