Visions of old communist Russia dominate Paris fashion week
Paris: Visions of old communist Russia and the new China took to the podium and dominated the Kenzo ladies wear collection for autumn-winter 09-'10.
In fur and leather four-inch wedges models bobbed and weaved up and down raised wooden plinths wearing silhouettes reminiscent of the rich culture of the Near and Far East.
The mood was one of world domination (well, at least the fashion world anyway). Designer Antonio Marras and his army showed no signs of letting up until total submission was ensured.
The collection featured big, baggy egg-shape silk and wool mix skirt suits and long dresses with extra draping, folds and pleats around the shoulders, waist and hips.
The models looked like life-size Russian dolls. Gorgeous winter rose prints on tapered silk trousers with pleated jackets were cinched in with chunky black "man" belts while collages of fabrics and prints were sewn together to make puffy sleeved jackets, narrow-leg trousers and dresses.
The knitwear featured long dresses and cardigans complete with sequins and knitted appliqué balls and baubles, as well as long arm warmers in khaki and prune. Medium sized bags came with gold rings where smaller additional purses were attached.
Chunky knitted cardigans with kimono-style sleeves worn with black jodhpurs and thigh-high stiletto boots opened Paul and Joe.
It wasn't long before the first jumpsuit pranced down the catwalk. The long-sleeved grey cotton all-in-one piece looked fabulous with long winter boots.
Tailored trench coats were worn with thick black belts, ultra-mini knitted dresses and oversized fur capes in saccharine pop colours. The collection was eclectic as it was upbeat and fresh. High-waist tapered trousers looked sexy with lace ankle boots.
Tan coloured long leather boots were teamed up with formal pieces in utility grey: classic one-button jackets, long coats and slim-fit knee-length dresses.
