The nightingale of India has something new to offer her fans and no, it has nothing to do with her golden voice. Diamonds are more like it

For over six decades Lata Mangeshkar has entertained and enthralled music lovers with memorable songs in her melodious voice.

The Bollywood singer, known as the nightingale of India, is now exploring another facet of her creativity by designing a collection of diamond jewellery.

The collection called Swaranjali, which means an offering of musical notes, has been created in collaboration with Adora, a well-known jewellery brand from India.

Every piece in the collection carries a laser-imprinted signature of Lata Mangeshkar. The latest collection from Swaranjali is now available at Crossover Bollywood Se, in Bur Dubai.

New offering
"I love jewellery, especially diamond jewellery and have always liked the quality of Adora's stones and craftsmanship. Hence I was happy when Adora proposed this collaboration. I enjoyed the process of creating the designs and seeing them translated into dazzling pieces that are joyous and uplifting - just like music," says Lata.

"I have been blessed to have the love and good wishes of so many people for so long. Swaranjali is a new offering from me to my fans and well-wishers and I hope they will like it," she adds.

The singer likes traditional Indian jewellery but finds it too heavy for daily use. "I prefer to wear lighter, more modern pieces and that is reflected in this collection. I am generally aware of current trends because I often go shopping for jewellery, but now I make an extra effort to keep up with the latest ideas," she says.

Blend of traditional and trendy
The collection currently on display at Crossover is a blend of traditional and contemporary styles with floral motifs innovatively juxtaposed with abstract patterns.

"The world sees Lata as a person deeply rooted in traditional Indian culture. In her trademark white saree, she symbolises the epitome of Indian womanhood and this aspect of her personality is embodied in Swaranjali's Traditional line," says Meghna Pagarani, managing director, Crossover Bollywood Se.

The others
"But behind that imposing persona lurks a child. The first thing that touches you when you meet her is her impish smile, which emits the vibrancy and energy of youth.

"This facet of Lata is expressed in Swaranjali's Trendy line. On the other hand, the Fusion line is inspired by her travels around the world, her association with various languages through her songs and her keen observation of Indian and international jewellery trends," Pagarani explains.

"Like Lata, her jewellery is pure, timeless and ethereal," she adds.
