Forget Cinderella’s or Belle’s ball gown. Aspiring young designers in the Middle East, Disney has a project for you. The company is launching a Design a Dress Competition, for girls aged 5 to 12, who will be tasked with creating their dream princess dress. The winner’s dress will then be brought to life by a real princess, Emirati designer Madiyah Al Sharqi, a shaikha from Fujairah.
To enter, participants in the competition, which will run from February 28 to March 19, are required to upload sketches of their dress on the Babyshop Facebook page. A special app will be launched on the page closer to the start of the competition. The winning dress, designed by Madiyah, will be unveiled in April.
Madiyah, whose eponymous label has received wide acclaim among UAE fashion circles, also counts the Kardashian family as one of her clients.
“I’m really glad to be part of an activation where we can encourage children to get in touch with their artistic side. I think it’s every little girl’s dream, to have a real princess dress, and I’m excited to be a part in making this dream come true,” she said in a statement.
