New Delhi: Designer Anupama Dayal dedicated her spring-summer collection to her mother Manjula, who has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

Titled ‘Manjula’, the collection consisted of pieces named according to the designer’s mother’s likes and dislikes — sindoor and sangeet, kahani and sunrise. Pieces included an off-the-shoulder dress in red silk, a high-waisted kaftan in red, handprinted with stripes, a long, fluid dress in satin and a striped aqua shirtdress.

“My mother has been diagnosed with the Parkinson’s disease. It was a huge shock for me. I can’t imagine my life without her active involvement. So I wanted to design something for her while she’s still here,” Dayal, who has a label called Anupamaa, told reporters after her show at the ongoing Amazon India Fashion Week Spring-Summer 2016 on Friday at the NSIC Ground.

Her line mostly comprised silk and a bit of cotton. The designer, known for her floral prints, used lots of stripes this year.

She also used jewellery made of paper and other recycled products.

“I have used jewellery on the dress. It’s my way of layering. I like jewellery. It enhances women’s beauty and is not necessarily a status symbol,” she said.

Apart from jewellery on clothes, the bright tassel earrings gelled with the Bohemian outfits.
