New Delhi: In a bid to bring Indian ensembles out of the ‘occasion’ wear closet, designer Anamika Khanna showcased her spring-summer collection that had Indianwear with strong sporty elements at the ongoing Amazon India Fashion Week.

The collection, with minimal embellishment, progressed from black and white to prints to indigo dye and concluded with a burst of colour and patchwork.

There were elements of chikankari and also metallic details.

“We often think that Indianwear is not cool anymore. I have used lot of cotton and khadi,” she told reporters on Friday after her show that was held outdoors with some of the lucky guests sitting on wooden benches and the rest standing amidst tight security at the NSIC Ground.

There were track pants, long jackets and more, but what appealed the crowd were the saris. One of the saris’ pallu was worn around the neck like a scarf and to give a sporty look to it, the model wore sneakers. Some of the ensembles were worn with caps.

The models also had a bindi on their forehead. “Bindi can be worn in a cool way too and not always with saris or suits,” she said.
