Have your say: Pre-booked taxi fares to increase

All taxis in Dubai will be connected to a centralized reservation system to cope with increased demand for the service.

Mohammad Obaid Al Mulla, Chief Executive Officer of the Public Transport Corporation at the Roads and Transport Authority said: "The system will contribute to connecting around 6,000 taxis to Dubai Transport Corporation and franchise companies with the satellite control system."

He said the pre-booked taxi service had witnessed a huge growth as the call centre receives more than 12,000 calls daily, in addition to online reservations.

The improvements will mean that the starting fare of pre-booked taxis will be increased from Dh4 to Dh6 during the day and from Dh4.50 to Dh7 during the night.

The taxi driver will be paid Dh2 for making a trip booked via the phone or internet.

There will be no change to kilometer charges or to the starting fares of taxis hailed on the road.

Firstly there should be enough public transport to meet public demand. Any decision to increase taxi fares may be reasonable but nowadays this step is not reasonable as we all know that public transport is worse than in other countries. In nutshell we can say public transport in Dubai is very poor.
