Imran Malik has the keys to the Traverse this week. All he needs now is a nagging wife and five noisy kids to complete the picture
Here at wheels towers we like to think we share our long-term cars equally, but when it comes to the crunch, we are plain and simply a greedy little bunch.
But then, who can blame us for showing vice-like tendencies when car manufacturers throw their latest and greatest offerings at us? Still, I'm pleased to report that — for a change — we are behaving ourselves and sharing the Chevrolet Traverse LTZ. And what an enjoyable car it's turning out to be.
It's one of the more fuel-efficient vehicles in its class thanks to a 3.6-litre direct-injection V6 which powers the big seven-seater.
Thankfully, it lacks the chunky lines of the GMC Acadia opting for a simple yet elegant design that flows from front to back. It is pretty agile for something so large. The all-wheel drive Traverse is no slouch, packing 288bhp and 366Nm of torque. It runs smoothly and is so stable at high speeds that you don't realise how fast you are going. The six-speed automatic transmission shifts effortlessly.
The four-wheel independent suspension and StabiliTrak stability control help cushion all those road bumps so well that it feels like it is floating on air most of the time.
As for the interior, there are a few too many buttons scattered around. It's easy to accidentally lower the rear window or fold the wing mirrors or change stations on the radio. But, keep your hands to yourself and it's really comfortable in there.
Thanks to a rear camera and sensors, parking in a tight spot is a breeze, although it would have been better if the right side view mirror would angle itself down when reversing. Overall, the Traverse is solid and honest, seats the whole family in great comfort and has impressive performance to boot.
There shouldn't be many complaints from those who splash out on one.
